Spring is fully unfolding, and our "Township of Lakes" is vibrant with activity. As we move past the budget deadlines, the focus shifts to community improvements and enjoying the outdoors. Here is your comprehensive update on everything Byram.

🏛️ LOCAL GOVERNMENT & COUNCIL NEWS

  • Municipal Budget Update: Following the public hearing last Tuesday, April 14th, the Byram Township Council officially adopted the 2026 Municipal Budget. The final approved document, which includes funding for key infrastructure projects and continued support for public safety and recreation, will be posted on the Township website in the coming week for public review.

  • Planning Board Meeting: The Byram Township Planning Board will hold its next regular meeting this Thursday, April 23rd, at 7:30 PM at the Municipal Building. The agenda includes a continuation of the review of a application for a minor subdivision on Roseville Road.

🏫 BOARD OF EDUCATION UPDATE

  • Outdoor Classroom Grant: Building on last week's update regarding Byram Lakes Elementary, the Board of Education confirmed that preliminary design work for the new outdoor learning space and garden beds will begin next month. The district is coordinate with local parent volunteers to assist with some of the lighter landscaping once construction concludes in the fall.

  • Next BOE Meeting: The Byram Township Board of Education will hold its next regular public meeting on Monday, April 27th, at 7:00 PM in the Byram Lakes Elementary School Media Center.

🗑️ TRASH & RECYCLING REMINDERS

  • Trash Collection: Regular Monday trash collection is proceeding as scheduled today. Please ensure all receptacles are curbside by 6:00 AM.

  • Recycling: This week (the week of April 20) is Fiber Recycling (paper and cardboard) for Zone A. Zone B will have commingled recycling (plastic, glass, and cans). Remember to flatten cardboard and keep it dry, especially with potential spring showers.

🚧 ROAD WORK & CLOSURES

  • Route 206 Southbound Utility Work: Minor, intermittent utility work continues along Route 206 Southbound, primarily between the intersection with Acorn Street and Brookwood Road. Be aware of potential brief, alternating lane closures between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, which may cause minor delays during off-peak hours.

  • Neighborhood Street Sweeping: The DPW is continuing its spring street sweeping program this week, focusing on neighborhoods in the north section of town (Zones 1 & 2). Please try to keep cars off the street on your designated sweeping day to allow for a thorough cleaning.

🏅 BYRAM SPORTS SPOTLIGHT

  • Lenape Valley Patriots: High school spring sports are in full swing! Our baseball and softball teams both started their seasons with competitive wins last weekend. Check the LVRHS athletics calendar for upcoming home games and come out to cheer on the Patriots!

  • Middle & Elementary School Sports: Byram Intermediate spring sports (volleyball and track and field) have officially begun their competitive schedules. Our student-athletes are eager and ready for a great season!

  • Rec Sports Update: Byram Recreation Little League and Spring Soccer are moving into their second week of practices. Fields are drying out nicely, allowing for a consistent schedule. Good luck to all our young athletes!

🌳 PARKS & RECREATION: C.O. JOHNSON PARK C.O. Johnson Park is looking vibrant and ready for the season! The DPW has been busy prepping all baseball and softball diamonds, and we are thrilled to announce that all fields are officially OPEN for the spring recreation season starting this week. A friendly reminder that the tennis and pickleball courts are also available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please continue to observe all park rules, including keeping dogs on leashes and picking up after your pets.
